Time for Labor to stand up for education
AEU president Meredith Peace has called on the Victorian Labor Party to stand up for public education in the lead up to the November state election in an opinion piece published in The Age.
Peace says it’s time that the major parties commit to fixing the whole gamut of funding needs in schools, not just make a show of spending money on school buildings.
Victoria currently spends $1881 less per student than the national average.
Peace’s article says it’s time for Victoria’s major parties to commit to significant additional funding for classroom programs and support that would really meet the needs of every student in this state.
